Spoiler warning. This guide discusses the complete plot of Both of Them, Only Her — including the twists and the ending — so that readers can decide whether it is for them. If you would rather go in blind, the spoiler-free description is on the book page.

Both of Them, Only Her: Full Spoiler Guide

Kate Marsh is twenty-one and has just aged out of foster care with nothing that belongs to her. Rowan Ashby and Declan Voss are married to each other, play on the same team, and want her — both of them, only her. Both of Them, Only Her is Lady Heartswell’s MMF hockey romance in the mould the pen later expanded into the Man Advantage series: an established gay couple opening to one woman, on-page M/M, and a scandal plot that tests whether the men will name the household when the cameras are on.

What it is

A closed triad built from the bottom up. Kate has no safety net; the men have money, a marriage and public lives. The book’s care is in refusing to let the first become a lever for the second: Kate sets terms, keeps exits, and is not rescued into dependence. The antagonist is Marcus Thorne, a stalker who forges a betting ledger implicating the players; the internal wound is Rowan’s institutional breach — an overreach made in Kate’s name without her consent — and the repair that follows.

Who will love it

Readers of why-choose hockey romance who want the M/M pairing given real weight rather than staged for the heroine, and readers who like a heroine whose vulnerability is circumstantial (foster care, no money) rather than temperamental. If you liked the consent-and-paperwork engine of Man Advantage 3, this is its earlier, rawer sibling.

Tropes

  • MMF closed triad; married M/M couple opens to a woman
  • Aged-out-of-foster-care heroine; class gap; touch-her-and-die protectors trained out of it
  • Stalker antagonist; forged evidence; public scandal
  • Hero’s overreach as the real breach; repair by disclosure
  • League press conference declaration; rings epilogue

Heat

Site heat level: Explicit. On the page: explicit, MMF with M/M on the page; the “dark” element is the power gap the book keeps naming rather than compromised sexual consent.

Content notes

Stalking; forged documents and defamation; foster-care aftermath and financial precarity; a partner’s institutional action taken without consent; explicit sex including M/M and group.

Full plot, with spoilers

Kate is drawn into the men’s home and refuses the version of it that would make her a dependent. Marcus Thorne’s harassment escalates from watching to fabrication: a betting ledger designed to end two careers and paint Kate as the leak. Rowan, trying to shield her, uses institutional leverage he had no standing to use in her name; Kate treats that as the same category of harm as the stalker’s, and the men have to repair it rather than explain it.

The ending (spoiler)

At a league conference the men are given a script to deny the household; they decline it and name Kate and each other. The ledger is exposed as forged and Thorne is dealt with through the law. Right-hand rings for all three — a household the state will not register, so they register it themselves. HEA.

Where it sits

Standalone. The Man Advantage series (start here) develops the same MMF hockey premise at greater length.
