Crowned by Chaos

Archivist Tamsin Cole finds her dead father’s handwriting in a mislabeled transfer box, encoding proof of the Sovereign Court, a secret cabal of old families that corrupted the city and weaponized her father’s bipolar diagnosis to discredit his findings.

When armed men come for the evidence, she accepts a strictly negotiated protection agreement from Evander Cross, a crime-adjacent maritime power who survived the Court’s abuses as a child and has hunted the same ledger for years.

Working with a federal prosecutor, the two authenticate a chain of independent ‘mirror’ records while surviving repeated attacks, and their alliance becomes a consent-driven relationship built on Tamsin’s refusal to trade her autonomy for safety.

Tropes: protector/bodyguard romance, forced proximity, morally gray crime-lord hero, dangerous man/uncompromising heroine, dead parent’s hidden mystery, enemies-adjacent to lovers, explicitly negotiated consent/BDSM, found family, only-one-safe-person, he falls first (what these mean)
