Crimson Vows of Tartarus: Full Spoiler Guide
Aella Hart, twenty-two, is killed by a car in Seattle and wakes chained on a ledge in Tartarus inside a Rank-V Crown Succubus vessel at Soul Level 1 with 18 Essence — “death has reinvented student debt.” She spends eleven of it healing an imp instead of eating it, and a forbidden summoning circle proposes to bind her as a Bound Weapon. Crimson Vows of Tartarus is Lady Heartswell’s isekai LitRPG romance: stat panels on nearly every page, a summoned-demon bond renegotiated clause by clause, and a progression system in which levels are earned by refusing power.
What it is
Dual first-person POV — Aella odd chapters, Roric Valerius even. Roric is a Shadow Warlock and second son of Duke Oren, who summoned her to prove his family is being magically compelled. In his library Aella finds the pact has a ratification screen and rewrites it: no command of her body, no manufactured consent, no feeding on the unoffered, mutual disclosure of dangerous numbers, no inheritance of the bond. The antagonist is Malrec, the youngest Valerius brother, a compulsion-mage who threads minds with charm-salt ground from Tartarean Crown-foundry waste. The Accord repeatedly offers Aella Mass Enthrall at zero cost; “zero is dishonest pricing” is her recurring line.
Who will love it
The LitRPG reader who wants Essence-per-minute arithmetic and skill tooltips to be the plot, and the demon-summoning romance reader tired of possessive-alpha framing — here the succubus is the one refusing to feed on a grateful crowd because gratitude and group pressure make poor conditions for informed consent. The third act is a courtroom, a rewritten ducal charter and a fight about drainage levies; readers who like competence about institutions will be happy.
Tropes
- Isekai by death; max-level body, level-one soul
- Summoned demon / forced bond renegotiated; reluctant bond to real romance; one bed at the White Hart
- Murdered family; smiling villain brother; mind control as the central threat; town under a false peace
- Dragon bargain with an honest price; corrupting artifact refused; mortality traded for freedom
- Courtroom third act; kingdom-charter denouement
Heat
Site heat level: Explicit. On the page: explicit, four scenes from chapter 8, each opened with a negotiated amount and limit list, safeword “red” and a two-tap release, shadow restraints tested on purpose, contraception (moonroot tincture) discussed. The final scene reverses the roles and binds Roric.
Content notes
On-page murder of a parent, a mother and a sibling; compelled servants driven to self-harm and a young man forced to hold a knife to his own throat; charm-salt in drinking water; caged prisoners and trafficking into Tartarus; a surgically embedded collar keyed to a heart; battlefield deaths of named minor characters; explicit sex with bondage.
Full plot, with spoilers
Soul Sight shows gold compulsion threads from Malrec to servants and to Duke Oren’s secretary, who keeps repeating “Order is mercy.” In chapter 6 Malrec’s threaded guards attack the family floor: Duke Oren is stabbed with the secretary’s compelled hand, Duchess Mara takes a glass needle beneath the breastbone, and Cassian, the heir, is pulled onto a glass lance. Roric evacuates witnesses instead of chasing his brother; Malrec takes the castle and the story. On the run, Aella refuses to confirm broad-area magic above Roric’s agreed Shadow Load threshold; he collapses an empty bridge arch instead, killing nobody. A royal Accord Severance Cage displays “Occupant: Aella Hart, human soul… Fatality estimate: 97%” and is deployed anyway; she makes its closed latch look open with Glamour.
In Oakhaven every citizen smiles: a copper bell, twelve street anchors and four charm-salted wells convert performed agreement into fuel. The dragon Vrakus offers a Crown Command fragment at zero Essence, with a counterfeit vision of Roric’s murdered family alive at the table; Roric breaks the illusion with “Dana hid money in frozen peas.” Aella returns the shard and admits she misses how whole command felt. Oakhaven’s liberation runs as four operations owned by four local groups; a hundred voluntary acts of resistance unlock Accord Pulse. At the Feast, Roric kneels and asks the poisoned King Aldren what he wants, and surrenders Cassian’s signet into evidence rather than use it. In the glass hall the Valerius bloodline compact drops Roric to his knees and drags Aella down through Heartchain; he escapes only by renouncing the succession aloud, including the ambition he still holds. The severance rite costs 80 Essence from her, 80 bloodline-authority from him, eight fully informed witnesses, and her immortal return — and the four people who decline are counted as strengthening it.
The ending (spoiler)
Seven hundred and twelve volunteers assemble at Crownspire’s western wall, twenty-three refusals recorded in a separate column; four die in the outer ring, thirty-seven withdraw and are recorded as former participants. In the glass hall four anchors are broken in order — the glass crown, the melted Valerius chain, a charm-salt heart, the sigil owning the king’s voice. Malrec puts a knife to the king’s throat; Roric stops it with one shadow layer at Load 81, then grounds through an ordinary iron sword rather than kill his brother. Aella declines the vacant central authority twice, spends her last twelve Essence binding Malrec’s wrist without touching his mind, reaches Level 10 on four thousand distributed refusals, and burns her whole restored reserve asking the king one question — whether his voice is his own. “Yes.” Malrec is tried for forty-three days and sentenced to life at Northwatch with no command authority; Roric holds a rewritten western charter with no blood command; Aella becomes the first Examiner of Coercive Systems and marries him in Oakhaven beside the repaired well. “Not forever. Today.”

No. One couple, monogamous by declared choice — Aella Hart and Roric Valerius — with the succubus feeding framed as reciprocal exchange.
How explicit is Crimson Vows of Tartarus?
Four explicit scenes from chapter 8 with a safeword (‘red’), shadow-bondage, and a system panel that prints ‘Bond state does not establish consent.’ The site badges it Open door.
Does Aella keep her immortality?
No. The severance rite that frees her from the bloodline compact costs her immortal return permanently; every later death is real.
